::: Women In Politics :::
Watching Gunter Jauch today, I
really got carried away. The guests were powerful female faces that have
brought about innovative changes and a lot of discussions in the world of
politics today. My last post was on “Violence against women”, I personally think
it portrayed the women as being weak and vulnerable. So watching the show
today, I thought of inspiring you my young ladies.
As guest speakers, we had Hillary Clinton
American sectary of state,
Dr. Ursula von der Leyen, minister of defense (and
possibly next German Chancellor)
and Prof. Dr. Margot Käßmann, bishop and ex-leader
of the Evangelical Church in Germany.
A mixture of women who have tasted power
and are in control today.
“Being a woman and a
public figure, we always draw attention to other irrelevant aspects that does
not necessary have anything to do with the purpose of our job”.
Hillary Clinton started the show
with these words.
In the world today unlike before,
there are women in the forefront. Women in leading institutions facing
different challenges in different domains. The taboo of being more than a
homemaker has been broken. So ladies don’t be afraid of your dreams, live and
help paint a different picture of the woman today
Hillary Clinton thinks of herself as
a feminist, because she advocates not only for equal rights but also for better
opportunities for women and the girl child around the world today.
I must say that was really courageous
of her because we all know the word feminist has a negative connotation,
especially in Germany.
I personally see nothing wrong in
pushing the female child forward, I don’t really believe in the notion that
women were made to be just vessels for production or just to hold mediocre
positions at their jobsites. Besides, it has been proven that institutions
which are being led by women are much more effective and efficient.
But I strongly believe the societal
picture and norms of the concept “Woman” has brainwashed the female child and
set a glass ceiling, the unseen, yet unbreachable barrier that keeps minorities
and women from rising to the upper rungs of the corporate ladder, regardless of
their qualifications or achievements, as a limit which may not be crossed by
our dear daughters and sisters.
This said glass ceiling, as Hilary
Clinton rightly said in 2008, has received so many cracks and it is high time
it is broken.
So ladies what ever your dreams are....be your dreams.
