::: Africa Positive...Dr. Chris Fomunyoh :::
Dear Readers,
guess what I found. Our very own Dr. Chris Fomunyoh on the July edition of
Africa Positive magazine.
Back through memory lane you will recall that he was
invited as a guest professor at the Arnold Bergstraesser Institute of the
Albert –Ludwig’s University of Freiburg, department of political science. To follow that up click ::: Dr.Chris in Freiburg :::
His lecture on:
“Africa and global trends 21st century: Challenges and opportunities”, offered a
platform for the transfer of knowledge and also enabled an intellectual
interaction between experts and novices on issues concerning our African
political system today. Dr. Fomunyoh who
is a
leading conservative public intellectual discussed the current development and
global trends, the political brinksmanship involving it and its effects on
African democracy and development. His talk presented a critical analysis of
the development issue and how political rhetoric and policy debates have
obscured it for decades. Unlike most talks held at university institutions, the
audience this time was exceptionally made up of experts and renowned
practitioners of international development. This made the talk and the ensuing
debate quite interesting and challenging.
Dr. Fomunyoh thrilled his audience
when he described Africa as rich, wealthy, continent of the future and a viable
trading partner especially for countries such as Germany. He elaborated on the multiplicity of untapped
mineral resources, youthful population, emerging vibrant civil societies, adoption of progressive constitutions and renewal of
political leadership, emergence of new institutions with charters that
emphasize the rule of law, democracy and good governance as some of the factors
militating for Africa’s renewal. Despite the huge potential in both human and
capital resources, Dr. Fomunyoh argued, Africa still faces a herculean task in
achieving its development objectives. He attributed these persistent challenges
to bad and corrupt governance, poor management of the continent’s resources,
lasting violence and conflict, terrorism and the impacts of climate change. Many of those who attended the lecture have been
inspired by Dr. Fomunyoh’s presentation style and informally refer to his
approach as something unique indeed. He was enthusiastic in his presentation and easily
connected with the audience.
The question:
What makes him inspiring? That will be a topic on its own scheduled for another
day. So please stay tuned.
But, permit me give you a brief background information on the person behind the picture” Dr. Chris Fomunyoh”. He was born and bred in Cameroon: a man with a humble background and trying beginnings. He is a family man, who enjoys spending time with his wife Anne Fomunyoh and kids. Dr. Chris Fomunyoh is a co-founder of the Fomunyoh foundation, a non-profit organization founded in 1999, with the aim of educating through its foundation library and promoting democracy through its radio station. He is currently a distinguished senior associate and regional director for central Africa and West Africa at the National Democracy Institute (NDI). He is not just a political analyst but a man with a heart as brave as that of a lion focused on bringing democracy and achieving transparency in our beautiful continent Africa. ReplyDeleteBoth humbling and inspiring.
ReplyDeleteThank you 'Waves of the Moment"
Dr. Fomunyoh is an exceptionally rare symbol of hope to the younger generation of Africans, particularly Cameroonians, who have for decades, been disenfranchised of good leadership in their fatherland. One can only pray that God almighty grants Dr. Fomunyoh an ideal opportunity to further demonstrate his leadership in the Cameroonian political landscape.
ReplyDeleteHope to the younger generation especially cameroonians indeed! We have scholars like him spearheading democracy in other part of the world, yet our country cameroon, is in deep shammbles. People shy away from repnsibilities. How happened to the last elections. Vraiment! We still have a president for 32 years in power yet we have advocates for democracy.... It is a shame.
