“Cameroonians are intelligent and dynamic people. I believe they would rise up any time they are presented with viable alternatives and platform that reflects visionary leadership; anchored in programs that can impact positively on their wellbeing. In today’s Cameroon, the desire for meaningful change is palpable; it is across the board, even among many who carry ruling party banners. There is no doubt that 50 years after independence, everyone recognizes the need for a renewal of the country’s political leadership.”

Bimbia A forest hillside steeply descending into a thicket of bamboo. Treading on a carpet of silvery dried bamboo leaves, we are on our way to an ancient slave site. The footpath is flanked by majestic bamboo plants whose leaves are woven into an airy dome far above us. A strangely ethereal silence envelopes us as all noise is filtered through the thicket of trees. After about ten minutes we arrive at the site. Below in the clearing there is a scatter of makeshift huts and, beyond the bustle of ordinary people, barely dressed in rags of woven material, a handful of men, women and children. Some have angry red gashes on their bare arms and backs. Others are chained to the derelict structures of the ruins. Rows of plastic chairs and a modern set of speakers give it away: the Cultural Festival has been moved to Bimbia today and, in memory of the sad history of the place, a play is about to be performed. Telling the story of a chief who betrays his villagers and trades th

Limbe A friend once told me that the Anglophone part of Cameroon was like a different world from the rest of the country. I did not believe him then. Coming in on the road from Douala, we cross into the Southwest. The roads look newly tarred and tidy. The ditches are uncluttered. The traffic is moving in an orderly fashion. The taxis are neat.  A different world!

Betwixt and between 2 cultures! In psychology , identity may be defined as the distinctive characteristic belonging to any given individual, or shared by all members of a particular social category or milieu. Nevertheless, the formation of this identity occurs through one's identifications with significant others; primarily with parents and other individuals during one ’ s biographical experiences, and also with 'milieu' as they are perceived.

:: Inspiring Faces of Our Time:::

Image
Dear readers, on again at a unique occasion. Just like most of you out there, I have been contemplating what this blog is all about and what it means or should mean to you and me. I must confess that I ended up with more questions than answers. Nevertheless, I thought it would be nice to share an idea OUR column "Inspiring Faces of our time or Great men of our time". Of course, when we call men and women 'great', we do so to honour some idea, principle or belief they have displayed either in action or in the words they have expressed. These actions or words must have had tremendous effect either in us, or we must have observed the effects on others with great enthusiasm.
